Chogan testers: how to choose a perfume with 3 ml testers
Share
Choosing a new perfume from a description or a quick sniff in a shop is rarely a good idea. A scent changes on the skin for hours, and what delights you in the first few minutes is not necessarily what you will love wearing all day. That is exactly why Chogan testers exist – a small bottle that lets you get to know a perfume calmly, at your own pace and on your own skin.
What is a Chogan tester?
A tester is a 3 ml spray bottle that lets you try a perfume before you buy a full bottle – from 30 to 70 ml, depending on the perfume. Chogan perfumes from the Olfazeta line contain 20–30 % perfume essence and are made in Italy, so even a small amount gives a true picture of how the scent develops and how much you notice it during the day. You will find testers in the Luxury testers collection, with prices starting from €3.00.
One 3 ml tester gives roughly 30–40 sprays, depending on the atomiser and how you apply it. That is enough to wear the same scent for several days in a row, on different occasions, and to make a decision without rushing.
Why test a perfume on your skin for several days
A paper strip mostly shows the opening of a scent, the top notes. On skin, a perfume develops in layers: after the fresh opening comes the heart, and after a few hours the base notes, which last the longest. Every skin wears a scent slightly differently, so the same perfume may come across warmer, sweeter or drier on you than on a friend.
Testing over several days gives you a fuller picture:
- Day one – apply one or two sprays in the morning and follow how the scent changes until evening.
- Day two – wear it on a different occasion, for example at work instead of at home, or on an evening out.
- Day three – notice whether you still enjoy it and what comments you get from the people close to you.
If you still like the scent after the third day, there is a good chance you will enjoy the full bottle too.
How to compare 3–4 testers
Comparing a smaller number of scents gives the best results. With three to four testers you have enough range to discover differences without tiring your nose.
- No more than two scents at a time – one on the left wrist, the other on the right, so the notes do not mix.
- Keep short notes – write down your first impression, your impression after an hour and in the evening. A few words on your phone are enough.
- Compare in similar conditions – the same kind of day and similar weather make for a fairer comparison.
- Rest your nose – if you stop being able to tell the scents apart, take a break and continue later.
- Narrow it down – after the first round, keep two favourites and wear each one for a whole day.
How to choose testers by scent family
If you do not know where to start, thinking in scent families helps. Choose the family that feels closest to you and compare two or three scents within it, or take one tester from each family and discover what suits you best.

Frequently asked questions
How many sprays does a 3 ml tester give?
Roughly 30–40 sprays, depending on the atomiser and how firmly you press. That is enough for several days of testing.
How long should I test one scent?
We recommend at least two to three days, on different occasions. That way you get to know both the top and the base notes and see whether you still enjoy the scent once the first excitement wears off.
How many testers should I order to start with?
Three to four testers are a good start. You can choose several scents from the same family, or one from each family if you are still looking for your style.
